Dr Nia Humphry, Consultant Perioperative Geriatrician, Cardiff and Value University Health Board

Dr Humphry is a Consultant Perioperative Geriatrician at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. She established the POPS (Perioperative care of Older People undergoing Surgery) service there in 2020, with the aim of improving the care of patients living with frailty who are undergoing emergency and elective surgery.

Alongside clinical work Nia is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University, delivering components of the MSc in Clinical Geriatrics and supervising students completing postgraduate studies relating to perioperative care. Her research interests include the impact of sarcopenia and nutrition on perioperative outcomes.

Nia is the current Deputy Chair of the British Geriatrics Society POPS Specialist Interest Group and is striving to support the development of POPS services nationally, as well as locally in South Wales
