Mr Elnasharty, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Mr Elnasharty is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. He was appointed as Children and Family Care Group Medical Director on October 2022 following his appointment as Clinical Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology on July 2021.

He completed An Advanced Clinical Leadership programme in 2022, his MRCOG in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2011 and his MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2016.

Mr Elnasharty developed the Gynaecology Hub in Cwm Taf Morgannwg (CTM) as an innovative approach for improving women’s health. The Gynaecology Hub is being developed in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital which will include a co-located Gynae Day Assessment Unit (GDAU) and Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU); the Gynae Rapid Access Cancer service (GRAS); hysteroscopy and colposcopy services; several outpatient clinics such as fertility, menopause, endometriosis, general gynaecology, recurrent miscarriage, and perineal trauma; as well as an increase in urgent gynaecology services and ultrasound scanning facilities.

The wider scope of the hub will provide CTM wide services, particularly focused on making the GRAS service available for patients with suspected cancer from the Bridgend area, as well as Merthyr and Rhondda localities. This will improve equity of services across CTM, but also release capacity in Swansea Bay to further improve equity across health boards.

The hub aims to reduce the number of clinic visits, reduce waiting times, improve patients’ satisfaction and improve performance against the Single Cancer Pathway by more timely detection and treatment of cancers, in addition to improving the CO2 footprint and becoming environmentally friendly.
