Bevan Fellow
Samy is a Consultant General Surgeon in Bronglais General Hospital in Aberystwyth. He finished medical school in Egypt 1989 and became a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1999. He has completed research work in Dundee University and was awarded MD in 2002, before starting his higher surgical training and being awarded CCT in 2010. During his training he was always interested in Clinical Audit and its impact on the improvement of quality of care provided to patients. This goes along with his interest in medical education and research.
Samy has participated in many national audits and led many local audits when he started work as consultant surgeon in Bronglais General Hospital in 2012. Currently he is the Chair of Clinical Audit Support Committee in Ceredigion. He has a Certificate in Medical Education from Cardiff University in 2018 and currently is Clinical and Educational Supervisor for many trainees and medical students. Samy is also the Faculty Lead for Education in Hywel Dda University Health Board. He has seen the impact of clinical audits on the improvement of quality of care and knows the obstacles that challenge clinical audits. This led him to try to find a solution to overcome these obstacles which can be integrated into daily work and provide robust data that can inform decision making. Along with the use of this application, there will be training and teaching opportunities to surgical trainees.
Samy’s Bevan Fellowship focuses on the development of an integrated work based computer application for auditing most of the common general surgical operation with Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy as a prototype.
