John has held an academic position at Bangor University since 2004 and was appointed Head of Psychology in 2013. In 2020 he became the Dean of the College of Human Sciences. He is a psychologist and neuroscientist focusing on the interactions between motivation and behaviour with a particular focus on positive psychology and the promotion of optimal functioning. His work aims to develop and evaluate interventions that promote healthy cognition and behaviour and in so doing help individuals achieve goals and overcome challenges. He is the Director of the Wales Centre for Behaviour Change at Bangor and works with external partners to embed behavioural science in real world contexts.
