The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the potential for global health and care systems to fully harness the power of data, including artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health technology. In the context of health and care in Wales, there is increased focus on digital health policy with the establishment of Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) and other supporting organisations. The Welsh health and care system recognises the need to prioritise better use of data and there is now a unique opportunity to lead the way and become an exemplar in how data can be maximised by all parts of the system to deliver more prudent health and care and make a real difference to people’s lives now and in the future.
