Professor Kamila Hawthorne, MBE MD FRCGP FRCP FAcadMEd FLSW DRCOG DCH

Kamila is a general practitioner, an academic medical educator and medical politician. Her research interests and publications include access to health services for Black and Minority Ethnic and other disadvantaged groups in the UK (with special application to Type 2 Diabetes), the development of social responsibility in health care professionals, and equality and diversity in medical education assessments.

Kamila is on the Trustee Board of the Kings Fund. She is Chair of the National Academy for Social Prescribing and Chair of Pathway (inclusion health for homeless people) and immediate past Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Her clinical practice is in a deprived ex-mining town in the Welsh Valleys.

Kamila was formerly Head of the Graduate Entry Medicine Programme at Swansea University (2018-2022) and is immediate past Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners. 

Kamila was awarded an MBE in the 2017 Queen’s New Years Honours List, for services to general practice.
