Our project involves developing the Intranet Endoscopy resource in ABUHB to establish standardised working practice within each of our 4 Endoscopy Units in line with the RCP Global Rating Scale from the Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy, which underpins all aspects of a high-quality endoscopy service. This includes clinical quality, safety, patient experience, the environment, workforce and training. Concurrently, the patient resource internet pages for Endoscopy Services in ABUHB are being developed with support from patient representatives and the communications team.
This project entails a large amount of work to develop content for each aspect of the Endoscopy Service and we believe will be a legacy resource for services in our HB, but also applicable to other Units across Wales. We are working with the National Endoscopy Programme team on this.
The immediate parameters for evaluation will be approval by JAG assessors at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr is put forward for JAG Accreditation and the uptake with other Units, not only in AB but across Wales as most of the content is generic and can be shared. It will also be assessed within the HB using service user questionnaires for Endoscopy and Non-Endoscopy staff who access the content. In addition, the internet pages will be evaluated by patient representatives and patient feedback questionnaires through our provider. Content will also be continually evolving and updatable on a regular basis at User Group meetings etc.
In summary, we have developed a different approach to standardising work of our Endoscopy Services and believe that this could be adopted by other Units and by JAG as the exemplar for all.
Project Update:
JAG accreditation has been secured for the endoscopy service at Ystrad Fawr Hospital. This recognises the work that the team has undertaken through their Bevan Exemplar project. The following feedback was received in the JAG report:
Throughout the assessment there were numerous examples of innovative service developments and the use of ‘lean methodology’ to streamline processes.
The team are congratulated on their implementation of a gold standard intranet site developed by the leadership team, where protocols, processes, guidelines and quality data are uploaded in a contemporaneous manner and shared with all team members.
Congratulations on the excellent sharing of innovations nationally, in particular with the development of digital platforms to support endoscopy being selected as a Bevan Commission Exemplar, being shared throughout Wales, and with further innovations shared especially through Dr Davies’ role as Vice-President of WAGE.
