Bevan Fellow
Kerry is a senior diagnostic radiographer working in Glan Clwyd hospital.
Previously to her career in Radiography she came from a scientific background and has a Master’s degree in Biology. kerry had a change of career and undertook a Radiography degree as she wished to work within the NHS and to have a direct impact on improving people’s lives.
Whilst completing her degree at Bangor University she applied to the College of Radiographer Industry Partnership Scheme. Through this she conducted a research project investigating dose optimisation on abdominal radiographs of bariatric patients.
Kerry qualified as a diagnostic radiographer and shortly took on a secondment as QA lead in the department. At the end of this secondment, she applied for informatics lead which is the job role she has now. Kerry is currently working on developing the new Soliton RISP and Philips Vue PACS system which is due to be rolled out nationally.
As Kerry progresses in her career, she hopes to become fully involved with research in radiography, combining both her clinical and scientific skills to progress this vitally important field.
“My Bevan Fellow project builds on my current job role of developing the new Soliton RISP, Philips Vue and Orchestrator systems. These three systems are due to be rolled out sequentially across Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, before they are rolled out nationally. The impact of these systems across Radiology will bring out large transformational change across all of Wales. The aim of my project is track these changes as they develops, collecting data and analysing the impact on patients and staff groups. Are waiting times for appointments reduced? Are patients with urgent findings reported more quickly? Is the software more accessible for staff to use? Does using AI to allocate reports to certain groups of radiologists improve report times? These are just some of many questions this project hopes to answer.
My hope is that by evaluating the impact of these systems at a health board level improvements and suggestions may be made for other health boards as these systems are rolled out nationally.
As a Bevan Fellow I hope to launch my career into research within the world of Radiography. I hope to develop not only my research skills, but my leadership, presentation and teamworking skills. I am very much looking forward to meeting like-minded individuals within the commission. Ultimately, I hope that my Bevan project can provide useful data for improving Radiology Services across Wales.”
