Senior Bevan Fellow

Monika is a passionate problem solver, drawing on her background in design and applied social sciences. Across a varied career she’s honed the art of doing the hard work to make things simple.

At Bristol City Council she spent 6 years designing and improving digital products and services for adult social care and professionals supporting children with special educational needs.

Monika joined Public Health Wales as a Principal Service Designer in early 2023. She leads the adoption of User centered design (UCD) and other design methods to improve end-to-end public health service design and delivery on a national scale.

“Well-established elsewhere, UCD remains an emergent profession in the Welsh public sector. For UCD to flourish, its principles and benefits need to be understood by key actors, so they can support implementation of digital transformations, and know what skills they need to invest in.

As a Senior Bevan Fellow, I will identify common challenges in the adoption of User Centred Design within digital transformations, how to overcome them and how harnessing cross-sector collaboration can deliver better health services for people in Wales.

I want to provide a practical view of how UCD can build synergies between service and digital teams around a shared vision, and make sure everybody has a voice and can contribute equally.

By sharing my work and creating resources which foster collaboration and drive adoption of UCD, I want to empower people within various organisations to identify user needs and by building on shared experience, accelerate innovation and streamline delivery so we can work towards true integration in our health services.”
